i definitely think that college athletes should be paid. college sports has become big business, with the school making money from ticket sales, merchandise with the players numbers on them, and money for going to bowl games. these athletes are not allowed to work during the season and have rigorous offseason schedules. They are getting paid with an education but if the ncaa is so worried about these kids, many of whom are from under priviliged areas, receiving illegal money from boosters or agents, they should at least give them some small percentage of money the sports program brings in and even a bonus for making bowl games like the nfl when a team makes it to the superbowl.

i don't think that student athletes should be paid because they are students being paid in education. If we start paying these atheles then we are taking the student out of student athletes because if they were students they would not be playing and being paid. If it was a professional league then you should definetly be paid for the services you do. But these kids used to be able to choose if they wanted to go into the draft or go to college and those that choose college knew why they were going there. They went there because they knew they were going to be students not professional athletes. So no i don't think that these athletes should be paid until they reach a level where it is a professional game and then they should be paid.

college athletes should not get paid. their goal is to become professional and get paid big money. if college athletes decide to pay them then why would they consider moving up in the big leagues. just like every other profession must go to college before he starts making money so the same goes for athletes. what makes them better that they earn money in school than a studen in medical or law school or someone trying to become a prestigious professional.they already get free scholarships because of their sports talent but to get paid on top of that is ridiculous.

I don't think they should be paid. As it is, they get scholarships so they don't have to pay for college. Plus, they're getting an opportunity to improve their skills and train to hopefully become a professional athlete. So, as much as they're bringing in revenues for the school, the school is also giving a lot to them and putting a lot of money into their programs. These schools spend a lot of money on the coaches, the sports facilities that they train in, and the marketing of the team's products. So, the fact that the school is giving them a free education, training, and publicity, is more than enough in my opinion. Besides, if the schools have extra money, they should be paying teachers more, not the athletes.

I think that college athletes should be paid. To justify this, I think that they should be called student athletes. By putting the word student in their title it brings to light the fact that they are college students. It is a well known fact that college students have no money. Some students work during their free time either on campus or off of campus. This places a major restraint on the time that they have to study and have fun and enjoy college. Student athletes are also placing a major time restraint on their schedule by playing on a team. They may be recieving free tuition but they dont see any of that money. Every student needs some "pocket money" for books and food and other stuff. This is why i think college athletes should be paid.

i really think that college atheletes should get paid because many people that are in the league they come from a family that cannot fulfill their needs. so instead of them asking help from other people, in my opinion the college athletes should get paid.

I do not believe they should be paid because in being a college athlete, they are doing the same thing everyone else is doing in college - working towards their career goal. Some students who want to be doctors take pre-med classes, and a student who wants to be in the NFL plays college footbal. Why should one get paid and not the other? If they do reach their goal of becoming a professtional athlete, they are bound to make ridiculous amounts of money sooner or later anyway, so why pay them in college? If they don't then theyr're in the same situation as every other student.

college athletes should get paid, but it should be a flat amount for all players that does not go up or down for any reason (to be fair), it is important that students are being paid for their involvement because the school inevitably profits from their time and athleticism- to not pay college athletes who dedicate so much of their time and personal life to the college sport would be wrong

they shouldn't be paid. I thought long and hard about this. At first I'm thinking, hey these guys bring in the money, pay the douchebags. Now I feel differently. What about those college teams that really suck? They gonna pay those guys? Nah ah! They ain't bringin' in shit for their schools! Besides, it's an educational experience. They don't pay the drummer in the jazz ensemble, why should they pay the tight end? I thought college was a time that you pay for and then it's supposed to pay itself back. While that sounds like a sack of rotting doodyshit to me, it's the rules we all play by. So these college athletes are students like the rest of us students. They pay, they don't get paid. The only ones who should get paid are the ones who take some initiative and rise above the game. You know, they should play it liek THEY wanna and go get some advertising gigs. This will only work for the really fantastic athletes. That's a great idea because I think the really terrific athletes SHOULD get recognition. If these young men are exploiting their athletic abilities, however, they should not be punished for making money. Screw everyone else on the team - they suck. Let the awesome ones bask in their glory.
Hey, it's good career training for these future sell-outs anyway.
