Counterargument

Pick one of the essays that we have read for this unit, and write a counterargument where you refute one or two of the main points from that essay.

Suggestions:

"Being A Man"
"Why Boys Don't Play with Dolls"

In response to the article "Men, Women, Sex and Darwin" i disagree on some key points. One of those points responds to her idea of the homosexual. She over generalizes how homosexual's react and she implies bold things about them. She tries to use scientic evidence to make a point about how homosexual's are more closely related to the opposite sex in brain size. But this does not really counteract the ideas of the evolutionary pyscologists. Another thing I disagreed about in this article was that her argument that women look for men of same pay grade for the man's ego. This is such a stupid idea because since when are women so intrested in protecting a man's ego. I think maybe it is because maybe these smart intellectual women are intrested in a smart man that happens to make money similar to them. It is just putting women down by saying they are so shallow that they have to only think they want to get with men for there money and i don't think how it is today.

In response to paul theroux's arguments in "being a man" about sports I 100% disagree. he took the absolute worst stereotypes about jocks and based his argument solely on that. "high school sports are a drug far worse than marijuana" is insane. sports for alot of kids in bad neighborhoods keeps them off drugs, out of gangs, and even saves some of their lives. sports makes leaders out of people, and for those who aren't comfortable in that lead role, it teaches them how to work as a unit. saying that "few in number are the athletes that behave like gentlemen" i think he has it backwards its just that the media rarely discusses the good anyone does, let alone athletes, so he ran with that. i would challenge him to re-research this and take the number of athletes who are social misfits, degenerates, rapists as compared to the total number of athletes and i think it would be very small. if athletes are so horrible how would any of them find someone to marry and why would any women encourage their children, boy or girl, to become an athlete.
