These days the majority of society is primarily entertained by the television. Recurring tv shows and reality shows are the advertisers number one objective. people spend more time focused on their daily media entertainment then the actual election that is soon approaching. society is too passionate about their entertainment that is takes away from their housework schoolwork, job and family. what’s is regarded most is society these days became american idol. voting on a new uprising star is the concern of most americans these days more then the presidency. If you were to ask any given person in the street what he thinks of either candidates foreign issue policy or education policy they probably will not have the faintest idea. but then ask them who they will vote for in Americans idol tonight, they will they you who and why with an explanation.
i only use this show as an example because surveys showed more people vote on the show then the last presidential election, which is quite sad. Tv is held in high regards to society these days. People must refocus their idea to more essential and necessary issues in life rather than reality tv shows. Entertainment is needed during these turmoil times to get our mind off of certain issues, but it should not be a remedy or a daily habit to consult to after every problem we encounter.

I think that mainstream American media is terrible at providing explicit, detailed, true information. The contemporary attention span seems to shrivel up in exponential proportions. As one of these victims of sound bytes and sensationalism, I would like some of my attention span back. I would also like some facts.
News channels (even my baby MSNBC) are too biased. Fox News, for example, digs its heels so deep in bias and sensationalism that not a single truth is ever stated by the likes of Bill O'Reilly or Sean Hannity, and many others. News should not be biased. What if the umpires at MLB games were biased. The game would not be fun anymore, or it might be too fun...for one side.
But information is in truth. I want to hear news that finds appropriate stories and deliver the truth unbiased and without sensationalism. And let's have all the stories about people doing GOOD things instead of only the stories about the BAD things. Don't you hate that? Every time you open up a newspaper or turn on the TV (or the internet) it's like "twelve teenagers killed in a fiery accident, 4 in critical condition" - but, where is the article on the guy who hangs out with the old people all day at the Home to make them feel good? Where's the article on the guy who owns a pet shop on MacDonald Avenue and takes in stray dogs and cats and takes care of them so they won't get killed? Where is the emphasis on the good? It is diminshing with our attention spans. Shit, half of you probably couldn't even read this whole post.
But let me tell you, we need truth and we need to stop and prevent this sensationalism. Because it seems like all we want is bad news, and we only want a short story.

I am actually against the media and their portrayal of beauty, so I'd argue against the importance society has on beauty, as well as their definition of it.

The media has skewed the average persons perception of beauty to the point where it's been deformed. Women are expected to lack curves that they are biologically meant to have, and men are expected to be almost hyper-masculine. In the modeling industry, anyone over a size 4/6 is considered a plus size model. This leads to men and women feeling inadequate physically, which they compensate for in other, sometimes dangerous ways. Some people become promiscuous as a way of validating their appearances, even if they're of an average weight or appearance.

A recent experiment was done where two women went in for the same job interview with the same recommendation. One was pretty, the other was fairly bland. The bland one went first and got the job at a low salary. The pretty one came in second, was still offered the job, plus a higher salary. How are individuals supposed to succeed if looks are more important than anything else?

Appearances are held to a regard that's almost ridiculous. It's the same problem with pornography, and it's the reason why our society as a whole has had difficulty moving forward. We need to shift the emphasis to things you can't get with a good plastic surgeon. Personality, intelligence, wit, humor, cunning, all of those things are far more important than looks. But who cares about any of those things nowadays?

In today's society, a large amount of people are obesse or just not physically fit due to their views on exercise. I bet if u ask any random person on the street if they exercise,i bet they will say no. This country has a image of being very lazy and unknowledgeable when it comes to physical fitness and it kind of sad. Out of all the kids i hang out with, my cousin peter and i are the only ones who go to the gym and take care of ourselfs. I always ask my other friends to come but everytime i ask, they look at me and say "yea ok." People tell me, your young, live, ear whatever you want but u no what, if i start eating good now and stay fit, it will make it a lot easier for me later on in life. I just wish that people could realzie the benefits of working out and stop being so lazy and do something about this high amount of obessity in this country
